Old Coach Road

See the video/comment on youtube.

Old Coach Road is 3555 meters long (2.21 miles) which took me 5.25 minutes to ride, at an average speed of 25.26 mph. It is a BOAT (byway open to all traffic). You can expect to find:

  1. A non tarmac surface
My description:

The official council byway list splits the old coach road into two parts. The Old Coach Road continues as "Comp Lane"

Easy lane, passable in any vehicle at any time of year.

This byway is recommended.

Drove entire length of the Old Coach Road today in a Subaru Forester. We saw absolutely no-one! Stopped halfway, switched off and you could hear a pin drop! Wouldn't agree that a standard car could cope with the whole run (inc Comp Lane) though. The infamous tree roots livened things up a bit!

Great long lane, with stunning views at any time of year, though sublime on a Summer's day. Larger 4x4s will risk getting a bit scratched up on a couple of sections where it gets a bit narrow - put the aerial down! - but otherwise it's an easy track to ride/drive.
We drive the bit you didn't as it's marked on the sign and map.

Drove 24.2.11 in the Forester. Momentarily got a jolt to the undercarriage in the wooded section near the start (ground clearance not very high!) otherwise, no probs - but the infamous tree roots shook me up!

Drove this few times in the last week in my disco 2 great track. Very narrow in a couple of places would have been a bit tricky if anything or anyone had come the other way. Can't wait for some rain to muddy it up a bit.

Nice easy ride with some fantastic views. Did it both ways with the tree roots giving some added interest when going uphill. Highly recommended for all levels of rider. Fantastic job Sven!

Went down this morning. ( 16/2/16) in a stock jimny with Bridgestone duellers. Very easy but incredible view and some deep puddles. Just past the start point there is some deep mud which wouldn't be possible in a car. The jimny made it but I wouldn't recommend stoping in it.
