I did this today (16.10.10) in a Jeep Cherokee. Travelling from north to south the Byway is marked as such. Climbing gently it passes through a farm and continues some way with a paved surface changing to stone capping and eventually dropping downwards and changing to mud as it does so. At this time it also narrows - not a problem for bikes but I picked up a few scratches here and lost a piece of trim. Horses use the path as do dog walkers at the southern end.
